When you finally make that step to become a full-time entrepreneur, there’s no greater feeling than knowing that you can wake up when you want, set your own hours and control how your entire day flows. The need to clock in at a normal 9-5 will be eliminated especially on those days when the weather isn’t favorable outside. One of the things that you definitely want to make sure you have in place, as an entrepreneur, is have an efficient home office and here’s why:
1. Pajamas are not always your friend.
We can all agree that one of the perks of working for yourself is being able to not only wake up when you want, but to work in comfortable pajamas for as long as you want to. Gone are the days where you have to worry about a dress code! Although it may feel good to stay in your relaxing clothes all day, there’s a possibility that it may feel TOO good. So good, that you’re not in the mindset to finish any of the work you have planned for the day. Think about it. When you were working a 9-5 and putting on your pajamas after a long day at work, it served as a way to promote relaxation and rest. So take the same concept and think about how that affects you psychologically when you are working from home in your pajamas. You will automatically find yourself being really laid-back and thinking that you have the whole day to get things done. But before you know it, the day will pass you by and you’re left wondering “What happened to my day?!”
The corporate world knows what they are doing when they have develop a structure that conditions their employees to not only wake up at a certain time but to also dress up and sit at a desk. A key takeaway from working in the corporate world is the level of formality and routine they have developed. This method can be used to develop a high level of productivity and success within your own business. Even if you have no plans to go outside, it is still good to wake up, do your hair and throw on something presentable to start your day. You never know if you’ll be called to do a teleconference or video chat with a potential client!
2. Leave your bedroom.
Another thing that may keep you from feeling motivated from completing your tasks for the day is to do all your work from your computer..while still in the bed. Again, it’s so convienent to work in your pajamas in bed but you’re more inclined to lay down, take unneccessary Facebook breaks and become distracted overall. As a result the quality of your work suffers. Your bedroom should only be utlitized for relaxation, peace and rejuvenation. Bringing your work to bed not only makes it hard for your brain to distinguish relaxation from work, but leaving your computer in your bed also disrupts your sleep patterns, thanks to all the electromagnetic power it possesses. Break the habit of lounging on the job and…
3. Designate a workspace that you’ll enjoy.
Creating a home office in a seperate room is one of the best ways to always ensure that you will be focused, clear in mind and ready for anything. It resets your mind to think business; similar to how it did when you were working for someone else. Not to mention sitting upright helps to keep you poised and alert.
