The 2015 woman comes with so many layers. Many of us wear different “hats” and have become so awesome at jugginling all of our titles! As I was trying to define all the roles that I posses, I went to Google to figure out a term that perfectly defines me (and many women I know). I came across a term called mompreneur. I was intrigured! So, what is a mompreneur?
A multi-tasking mother who can balance both the stresses of running a home-based business as an entrepreneur, and the time-consuming duties of motherhood at the same time. -Google
Maybe it’s because I am a mom but when Google introduced me to this definition for mompreneur, I thought, “Hello!” Those are the women I look up to; the ones who make moms like me everywhere snuggle into our confidence and step into the world of business.
It is a delicate art to balance the demands of motherhood with owning a business. From the celebrity mompreneurs Jessica Alba, Kimora Lee Simmons and (yes) Kim Kardashian, to the women who rule the everyday world with their genius ideas and game changing approaches such as Roxanne Ferrance, Kisha Holt and Richelle Shaw . Moms are giving a new face to business owners and hope to women like myself with family as priority. I admire these moms and some of their traits are commendable. Here are 3 ways that mompreneurs are the real MVPs!
Mompreneurs don’t have time to waste. There are dishes to clean, meals to prepare and kids that need guidance for a bright future. It’s a no slack business running a home and so when opportunity comes knocking, moms everywhere are quick to listen. There is a constant willingness to entertain ideas for new revenue. Mompreneurs accept opportunity as a challenge and channel it into creativity.
2. Leaders By Example
Mompreneurs already have embedded in their code that leading by example is one of the laws from the old book of motherhood and business. We should raise our children in the image of ourselves. From saying “please” and “thank you” to effectively running the family business, mompreneurs are leading by example. They are showing their children the meaning of hard work and the meaning of persistence. Mompreneurs are paving the way for their children while enjoying the beauty of them growing up.
3. Inspire Other Moms
I am proud to be a mom and I enjoy drawing inspiration from other moms. When I encounter an article about a mom who invented a new teething toy, a new car seat or a new organic product to better suit her familys’ (and many other families) needs, I feel encouraged. There is hope for the little person I am with my big ideas. There are moms who have stepped into designing fashion for their children, creating new tv characters for their little ones to fall in love with and new foods to settle in their little tummies. I sometimes need to feel inspired for my growing family. Inspired that I can live a fulfilled life where my children are the reason I enjoy my career. Inspired by these mompreneurs that I too can build a business, a brand or an empire.
It’s amazing how some mompreneurs push themselves while juggling three children and a busy household. If I can be half the women some of these women are, I’d be someone my children can certainly look up to.
Have you met any mompreneurs lately? How do you get inspired as a mother?
